SCHOOL HEROes SUPPORT

Giving Teachers the Support They Deserve

The Change Reaction provides gifts for financial emergencies to our teachers and school staff so they know they are loved and honored for their incredible work.

School Heroes Emergency Fund provides emergency grants of up to $2500 per person, per year to teachers and other full-time school staff and personnel.

By working in partnership with Canary, a technology platform that allows organizations to route emergency grants to employees and manages the applications, School Heroes Emergency Fund guarantees the confidentiality of all requests.

Teachers and schools are critical for building our city’s next generation.

Yet, in Los Angeles, many school staff struggle financially with the high cost of living. We view school teachers, counselors, administrators and other school staff as community heroes. These are the people who directly impact the lives of 1.3 million children learning in schools across Los Angeles County. They hold selfless, demanding, and absolutely essential jobs.

The School Heroes Emergency Fund provides emergency grants of up to $2,500 per year to qualified teachers and school staff. This program is supported by our partnership with Canary, an online platform that manages the application process and disbursement of funds, allowing school staff to access emergency funding quickly and privately.

For a teacher, school counselor or janitor, an unexpected medical emergency, a car accident, or even a broken appliance needing repair can be an incredible financial strain.

Our Impact in Schools

Since starting this program in 2023, more than 30 schools and nearly 3,000 school staff have access to the fund. To date, we have received over 1,000 requests and recently reached the milestone of providing over $1 million dollars in emergency gifts!
